Este año será el noveno año como maestra de Ms. Herrera. Ella es maestra bilingüe de cuarto grado en la Escuela Primaria Dolores Huerta. Ms. Herrera nació en Piedras Negras, Coahuila, México y se mudó a Fort Worth con su familia cuando estaba en tercer grado. Ella atendió la Preparatoria Dunbar de las Profesiones de Ciencia e Ingeniería, y se graduó en su último año de la Academia Phillips en Andover, MA. Asistió a la Universidad de Harvard y se graduó con un bachillerato en Cine, Video, Fotografía y Antropología Social. Actualmente asiste al Colegio de Maestros de la Universidad de Columbia, en la Academia de Directores de Verano, NOLA, y está estudiando una Maestría en Liderazgo de Escuelas Públicas. Ms. Herrera decidió dedicarse a la educación después de sus estudios universitarios debido a su pasión por la reforma educativa, la educación bilingüe y la educación STEM.

This year will be Ms. Herrera's ninth year teaching. She is a fourth grade bilingual teacher at Dolores Huerta Elementary. Ms. Herrera was born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and moved to Fort Worth when she was in third grade. She attended Dunbar High School for the Science and Engineering Professions, and graduated as a one-year senior from Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. She attended Harvard University and graduated with a degree in Film, Video, Photography and Social Anthropology. She currently attends Teachers College, Columbia University's Summer Principals Academy NOLA and is pursuing a Master of Arts in Public School Building Leadership. Ms. Herrera decided to pursue teaching after college because she is passionate about education reform, bilingual education, and STEM education.

After being selected as Campus Teacher of the Year for school year 2018-2019, Ms. Herrera was awarded the Lockheed Martin Chair of Teaching Excellence in Elementary Math and Science for 2019-2020. She was presented the award after a rigorous evaluation process consisting of interviews and a teaching demonstration video. She was honored along with the other FWISD finalists during the Chairs for Teaching Excellence Luncheon on November 14, 2019.
